Chery in Talk with DaimlerChrysler

September 26, 2006 at 8:41 pm (China, Companies)

According to Financial Times, Chinese car maker Chery is talking with DaimlerChrysler, America’s third largest car manufacturer, for a possible cooperation under which Daimler will sell Chery’s small cars in the US, while  Chery will help Daimler build a small-car manufacturing base in China.

Already has pretty decent exposure in developing countries, Chery is ambitious to sell its cars to developed countries. Hiking gas prices might be a good opportunity for Chery, if it can make their cars not only small but also energy-efficient. To sail in a market as big as the US’s with strong competitors from Japan, Europe and America, Chery has much more to do to survive. The reliability, the brand, the quality, the marketing skills, and much more. But it’s worth to try. Chery might be the only qualified Chinese candidate to compete in the US.
